Law Passed Renaming Montgomery County Roadway After Dr. Frank Erdman Boston

House Bill 1560 was signed into law last week. The measure renames State Route 2004 in Lansdale after Doctor Frank Erdman Boston.

LANSDALE, PA — A measure to rename a portion of State Route 2004 that runs through Lansdale Borough and Hatfield Township after a famous Montgomery County doctor has been signed into law.

House Bill 1560 renames the state route, which is also North Broad Street, the new Doctor Frank Erdman Boston Memorial Highway.

Boston, who was born in Philadelphia in the late 1800s, was a well-known physician, surgeon and military veteran who served as a medical officer during World War I.

When he returned from service, Boston settled down in Lansdale, where he became one of the first Black Americans to found both a hospital and an ambulance service.

Today, those are Jefferson Lansdale Hospital and Volunteer Medical Services Corps. respectively.

"Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Boston Legacy Foundation and their community partners, Doctor Boston's achievements are being recognized far and wide, and this unsung trailblazer is finally receiving the accolades he deserves," State Sen. Maria Collett, D-12, said in a statement.

Collett and fellow Sen. Bob Mensch, a Republican representing parts of Montgomery, Bucks and Berks Counties, recently welcomed guests from the Boston Legacy Foundation to celebrate the signing of the bill into law by Gov. Tom Wolf.

Guests who attended the signing ceremony included George Whitehair, who is the executive director of the Boston Legacy Foundation; Khoi and Heather Pham, an artist and author team behind the Doc Boston Adventures comic book; and members of the Boston Legacy Foundation.
