Bucks Co. High School Cancels Classes After Staff Shortage

Harry S. Truman High School cancelled classes on Friday, Nov. 12 'due to the number of staff out and the subsequent concerns for safety.'

LEVITTOWN, PA — Harry S. Truman High School cancelled classes on Friday, Nov. 12 after facing a shortage of staff and concerns over the safety of students and staff.

"Due to staff shortages today and concerns that result from that shortage, there is NO School for Truman students today, November 12th, 2021," the Bristol Township School District wrote on its Facebook page. "Staff and faculty are still to report for a professional day."

The school district says that 33 staff members contacted the school the night before to say they would not be in for work the day after Veterans Day.

The district also says this is not related to any outbreaks of the COVID-19 virus, as the Bucks County Department of Health would have notified them if that was the case.

The school district plans on recruiting more substitute teachers to combat future incidences like this. Truman, like so many other schools around the country, currently face a shortage of staff for various reasons, most of them in relation to the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Health concerns from staff and early retirements have been sited as reasons for nationwide shortages.
