Bucks Co. Teen Drowns In Apartment Complex Pool

The teenager's family said that the pool water was very cloudy and that lifeguards would not check the pool to see if she was in it.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A Bucks County family is mourning the death of their teenage cousin, who drowned in a Bensalem swimming pool on Sunday.

According to 6ABC, who spoke with several family members, Kaylee Alston drowned in the swimming pool located at the Franklin Commons apartment complex. Family members said that the water was very cloudy and that no one should have been allowed to swim in it.

Lazette Wright, a relative of Alston, said that her family had repeatedly asked lifeguards on duty to check to see if she was in the pool after they were unable to locate her. One lifeguard eventually jumped in and brought Alston's body to the surface.

"Once the lifeguard finally realized we weren’t going to leave without him searching the pool he jumped in and immediately found her body at the bottom of the deep end, but it was too late," said Antionette Wright, who wrote about the incident on a GoFundMe page dedicated to Alston.]

Now, Alston's family is wondering why the allegedly murky pool was visible in the first place. Bucks County officials told 6ABC that no one should be allowed to swim in a pool where the drain is not visible.

Franklin Commons has since hired a new team of lifeguards, with plans to implement additional training in the works, according to 6ABC.

The GoFundMe account set up by Alston's family will use funds to help pay for funeral expenses and help Alston's siblings get the right resources to "cope with this loss".

"Kaylee’s death should never have happened," the GoFundMe page said. "Kaylee touched so many lives and will be missed greatly."
