Falls Twp. Community Park Closed After 'Suspicious Device' Found

The Philadelphia bomb squad was on scene to inspect the item, thought to be an explosive device or a firework.

LEVITTOWN, PA — The Philadelphia bomb squad was called into Levittown after a suspicious device was found at the Falls Township Community Park the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Located in the area of Old Bristol Pike and Wheatsheaf Road near the park, the device is thought to be a home-made explosive device or a firework of some kind, according to police.

Local officers discovered the device earlier in the morning. and called in the Philadelphia Police Department's bomb squad; police agencies in Bucks County do not currenty have their own unit for incidents such as these, and the Philadelphia bomb squad has assisted local police departments multiple times in the past.

Around 8:45 a.m., police had the surrounding area blocked off, with local traffic redirected to ensure the safety of drivers and others in the area.

According to the Falls Township Police Department, it "is not believed that there is any ongoing threat to the public." The situation is currently under control.
