LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A stretch of Langhorne-Yardley Road is expected to open Friday following two months of closures for the construction of a roundabout, PennDOT said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said that the intersection and a section of Langhorne-Yardley Road at Bridgetown Pike have been detoured since mid-June.

Paving is scheduled to continue through Friday, PennDOT said.

"We're hoping by the end of the day," PennDOT spokesman Brad Rudolph told Patch Friday morning.

During the closure, drivers were detoured onto Woodbourne Road, the Newtown Bypass, and Langhorne-Newtown Road (Route 413).

The work is part of a $10.6 million project to update the intersections of Langhorne-Yardley Road at Bridgetown Pike and Woodbourne Road.

The existing signalized T-intersection at Langhorne-Yardley Road and Bridgetown Pike is being replaced with a single-lane roundabout to decrease vehicular speeds, improve safety and enhance traffic flow.

The project also includes improvements at the Langhorne-Yardley Road and Woodbourne Road intersection, including realigning the northern leg of Woodbourne Road and constructing auxiliary turn lanes. The eastern leg of Woodbourne Road is being widened to allow for a left turn lane on Langhorne-Yardley Road approaching Erica Drive.

Additional parts of the project are designed for mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists, including the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at existing pedestrian crossings on Langhorne-Yardley Road and Woodbourne Road. New paved paths along Bridgetown Pike and Woodbourne Road will connect the intersections to Core Creek Park driveways, and sidewalks are being constructed along the southern side of Langhorne-Yardley Road between Woodbourne Road and Briggs Road.

The project also includes upgraded traffic signals, stormwater management, ADA curb ramps, signage, and lighting.

The project is financed with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds. General contractor James D. Morrissey Inc., of Philadelphia, is handling the work.
