Medical Center Is First In Bucks Co. To Offer New Robotic Therapy
St. Mary Medical Center will provide the new aquablation therapy to offer relief for patients with enlarged prostates.
LANGHORNE, PA — St. Mary Medical Center announced Wednesday that it is the first healthcare provider in Bucks County to offer Aquablation therapy for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms from benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Aquablation therapy is an advanced, minimally-invasive treatment that uses the power of water administered with robotic precision to provide best-in-class and long-lasting symptom relief for patients with an enlarged prostate, with low rates of complications.
According to a news release, one in two men ages 51 to 60 have an enlarged prostate, a non-cancerous condition the incidence of which increases every decade of life. If left untreated, it can cause significant health problems, including irreversible bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones, and incontinence.

Surgical treatments for this condition often provide symptom relief at the cost of side effects, making patients choose between: high degree of symptom relief with high rates of irreversible complications like incontinence, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculatory dysfunction; or low degree of symptom relief with low rates of irreversible complications.
Aquablation therapy provides a high degree of symptom relief with low rates of irreversible complications, regardless of prostate size or shape.

“We are proud to be the first in Bucks County to offer a solution for men with BPH that provides BPH relief without compromise,” said Jamison Jaffe, DO, a fellowship-trained urologist and division chair of Urology for St. Mary Medical Center. “Aquablation therapy is the next step to furthering our commitment to robotic surgery and men’s health. Our goal is to help our community enhance their health using the most advanced technology available.”
Aquablation therapy is performed by the AquaBeam Robotic System, the first FDA-cleared surgical robot that utilizes automated tissue resection for the treatment of LUTS due to BPH. It combines real-time, multi-dimensional imaging, automated robotic technology and heat-free waterjet ablation technology for targeted, controlled, and immediate removal of prostate tissue, according to the news release.
A study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, which surveyed 300 men living with BPH, revealed 92 percent of respondents expressed an interest in learning more about aquablation therapy, perhaps suggesting existing treatments aren't providing the desired care.
Those interested can learn more about aquablation therapy on the St. Mary Medical Center website.
