FALLSINGTON, PA — With the school year starting, the Pennsbury School District is looking toward the future.

The school district will hold a public hearing Thursday night to present information and receive public comment on the proposed construction of a new Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills.

The hearing takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Fallsington Elementary School, 134 Yardley Avenue, Fallsington.

School officials said the formal hearing is required under Act 34 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code to provide an opportunity for residents and employees of the district to review all relevant matters related to the planning, designing, constructing, furnishing, and equipping of the new high school.

The hearing will include a presentation detailing the educational, physical, administrative, budgetary, and fiscal aspects of the new high school project, school officials said.

The Pennsbury School Board has approved a maximum project cost of $269,546,944 and a maximum building construction cost of $212,409,380.

Residents and district employees are invited to submit written testimony in advance of the hearing. Submissions must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and should be sent to: Dr. Thomas Smith, Superintendent, Pennsbury School District, 134 Yardley Avenue, Fallsington, PA, 19054.

Written testimony should include the sender’s name and municipality, their status as a district resident or employee, the name of the project, and a statement of support or objection. Those offering objections are encouraged to suggest alternative solutions.

The public can also provide oral testimony at the hearing. A sign-in sheet will be available before the start of the meeting. Speakers will be called in the order they signed in, and remarks will be limited to five minutes per person. No one will be allowed to speak a second time until all others have had a chance to address the board.

School officials said that written comments will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, and should be submitted to the district's chief financial officer.
