LEVITTOWN, PA — A recent Pennsbury graduate has earned her Gold Award in the Girl Scouts for a website she designed to help provide disadvantaged youth with STEM opportunities.

Tara Shevlin, a member of Troop 2147, designed a website called the 'STEAM Team', which offers activities, worksheets, science experiments, and general information to help children achieve greater knowledge in STEM subject areas.

Her website was made for children in grades K-8 as a way for them to improve their knowledge and use of STEM studies.

Shevlin, who is currently attending the University of Arizona, introduced the website to a group of children at the Trenton, NY CYO, where she gave several presentations on topics like pollution and global warming. She taught students how they can use the skills offered on the website to make a positive impact on the Earth.

This award was the last of the 'Trifecta' awards Shevlin received, having attained the Bronze and Silver Awards before this.

The Gold Award, which is only offered to Girl Scouts in high school, is the highest and most difficult award to earn, typically requiring a minimum of 80 hours to complete. Only 3,500 girls in the nation earned the Girl Scout Gold Award in 2021.
