The off-duty officer then drew his own weapon and ordered the suspect to drop the gun. The man dropped the gun and both suspects fled the scene on foot.

Police arrived and found the vehicle the pair had arrived in, which they said they discovered had been stolen from Chester County.

Officers then conducted a wide search, with police from Limerick, Upper Providence, Royersford, and Collegeville working to track the suspects down. While the suspects evaded police in the immediate vicinity of the Kohl's, they were captured nearby a short time later.

"We are extremely grateful for the quick thinking and brave actions of the off-duty officer, which prevented what could have been a more tragic situation," Limerick Township police shared in a statement. "We also commend store employees and witnesses that quickly secured themselves within the business after the initial attempt and provided valuable calls to police with their observations leading to the arrests."

Both were booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility. They were charged with attempted robbery, receiving stolen property, and firearms charges.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
