RADNOR, PA β€”Three universities near Cabrini University are offering admissions to Cabrini students following the announcement last week that Cabrini is closing at the end of the 2024 school year, school officials said Monday.
Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia; Immaculata University, East Whiteland Township, Chester County; and Gwynedd Mercy University, Lower Gwynedd Township, Montgomery County, have websites and transfer days scheduled for Cabrini students.
Villanova University announced Friday that a tentative agreement has been reached to buy the Cabrini University campus, which will graduate its last class in June 2024.
Villanova, Cabrini, Saint Joseph's, and Gwynedd Mercy are all Catholic-based universities.
Cabrini has struggled with enrollment, which was estimated at 1,600 in 2022, about 1,000 less than in 2012, according to the state Department of Education Data system.

St. Joseph University

Saint Joseph's University will guarantee admission to Cabrini students who are in good standing, Kevin Gfeller, a university spokesman said Monday.

Saint Joseph's was preparing for the closing that was announced last week for weeks leading up to the announcement.

Immaculata University

Immaculata University also is offering a transfer program for Cabrini students.

β€œWe are all saddened to hear the news about Cabrini,” said Barbara Lettiere, Immaculata president. β€œWe’re all a part of a close-knit group of Catholic higher ed institutions in the Philadelphia region. Decisions like the one that Cabrini made can’t be easy, so our hearts are with them.”
For Cabrini students, Immaculata will eliminate the application fee, offer financial packages matching their current tuition, and accept Cabrini credits for classes in which students earned a C or higher.
β€œEnrollments are steady, student outcomes are excellent, our sports teams are performing well, and our students are happy,” Lettiere said of Immaculata.

Gwynedd Mercy University

Gwynedd Mercy University is also offering Cabrini students transfer credits and tuition to match their financial aid packages so students can complete degrees without extra time or expense.
β€œThis is surely a very difficult time for the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Cabrini University, and we are sending them our very best wishes as they navigate through this change,” Lauren Yancer, Gwynedd University spokeswoman, said.
Gwynedd Mercy will expedite the transfer admissions process for any undergraduate or graduate student preferring to transfer this fall.
The university is inviting students and families to attend on-campus or virtual sessions created for Cabrini students. Campus tours and visits are available. More information is available he
