Ex-Chesco Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex Abuse Of A Boy In New Hampshire

The 39-year-old West Chester man previously pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a student at the Phelps School near Malvern.

MALVERN, PA —A West Chester man, previously convicted of sexual abuse of a student at a Malvern private school, was sentenced to prison in New Hampshire for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old at camp two decades ago, according to AP.

Matthew Scavitto, 39, was sentenced Friday to 2 1/2 to five years for sexually assaulting a camper during the summers of 2002 to 2003 at Camp Tecumseh in Moultonborough, N.H., according to Eric MacLeish, a lawyer for the victim in the case.
Scavitto pleaded guilty before Carroll Superior Court Judge Mark Attorri to aggravated sexual assault.

In 2015, Scavitto pleaded guilty in Chester County Court to institutional sexual assault of a 17-year-old student at The Phelps School near Malvern. The school fired Scavitto immediately after his arrest. The boy told the Willistown Township police that he was good friends with Scavitto, who was also his coach and dorm supervisor.
The victim in the New Hampshire case told the judge that camp officials should have reported the sexual abuse to law enforcement officials two decades ago.

"Had the camp reported the abuse, Scavitto would have been prosecuted 20 years ago and he would never have been able to gain access to other victims at the camp and the Phelps School," the victim said in a statement.
Scavitto took full responsibility for his actions and hopes the victim can begin healing, his lawyer, Jesse Friedman, said Saturday.
