Games, Food and Fun at Limerick Community Day
Limerick Parks and Recreation hosts annual event
Threatening clouds didn't keep local residents away from Limerick Community Day on Saturday, and thankfully, the rain did stay away for the duration of the event.
Kids got their faces painted and enjoyed train rides and inflatable slides and mazes sponsored by NorthPointe Community Church. The Rotary Club had a lineup of carnival games including one where the player could win a goldfish.
Several organizations were also supporting charity causes on Saturday. Exelon provided an Alex's Lemonade Stand booth, Spring-Ford cheerleaders were selling baked goods and the local chapter of Students Against Drunk Driving had a beanbag-toss game for prizes.

Limerick's Public Works Department had one of their large dump trucks available for children to climb into and check out, but of course, the little hands couldn't resist honking the huge truck's horn.
By far, the most popular game of the day was smashing up a wrecked car. The Limerick Parks and Recreation department was supporting the Manderach Playground by selling chances - at three swings for $1 - to use a sledgehammer, mallet or hammer on a junked car.

Both kids and adults were getting into the "swing" of things and by halfway through the event, the car was a mess of dents and scratches.
Several local politicians had tables out where they could greet the public and hand out literature.
People were also enjoying a large selection of food, including fries, barbecue, pierogies, flavored shaved ice and ice cream.
Under the picnic pavilion, the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce sponsored a local Business Expo, representatives of approximately forty local companies were talking to people and handing out goodies.
Parks and Recreation director Karen Hegedus was very happy with the turnout.
"I'm really pleased, the weather's holding out, and we have a great crowd," she said.
