Local Church Honors First Responders

First United Church of Christ, Royersford, holds service to honor first responders and remember victims

The in Royersford held a special service today to both honor local fire, police and emergency workers and to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Church member JR Bach said, "These guys don't get the thanks they deserve. Being so close to two firehouses [Friendship and Humane Fire Companies, now Royersford Fire Company], we wanted to do something."

Pastor Kate Davidheiser led the service, which included time to remember those affected by the attacks, prayers for first responders and words on forgiveness.

Limerick Fire Company Assistant Chief Chris Miller and firefighters Nick Egan, Jackie Hood, and Antony Fazio were in attendance.

"There were 343 firefighters lost [in New York City]," Miller said. "It's nice to remember not just firefighters and police but others."

Congregation members were encouraged to share their prayers of joy, love and hope and prayers for justice and forgiveness on prayer boards set up in the sanctuary.

The congregation also lit candles in remembrance while Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning" played.

All around the church, there were handshakes, smiles, and words of thanks for the four firefighters in attendance.

In closing the service, Davidheiser said, "As a community, we can thank them [our first responders] and pray for them."
