Potassium Tablets To Be Distributed Within 10 Miles Of Limerick Generating Station

The tablets protect residents in the case of radiological emergency. ​

LIMERICK, PA β€” The Montgomery County Department of Public Health will distribute free potassium iodide tablets to residents around the county who live within 10 miles of Limerick Generating Station.

The tablets are an emergency protection against a potential disaster at the nuclear plant, as they can help protect the thyroid from radioactive iodine during a radiological emergency.

Two events will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The events will be held at the Pottstown Health Center on 364 King Street and the Limerick Fire Company on 390 W. Ridge Pike. Naloxone kits will also be available at the Pottstown location.

Tablets should only be taken when instructed by state health officials during an emergency.
