Royersford-Spring City Bridge Repairs On Schedule

In other news, the borough will honor 9/11 victims with flags.

During the Royersford Borough Council’s first August meeting Tuesday night, borough manager Michael Leonard said the are "on or ahead of schedule."

The comment came in response to a question from resident Hannelore Bealor, the owner of the . Bealor asked if the bridge crews were working 24 hours a day as they had promised when the project began.

"I know they poured concrete recently," Leonard said, speculating that crews might not be there because they are waiting for the concrete to set.

Another resident said the middle section of the bridge is covered with burlap, which indicates that there might be concrete curing underneath and that he has seen the crews laying rebar recently.

"The times I was down there, it looked like they were going at a good pace," council president Thomas Weikel said.

Leonard showed the council a flag he has purchased to be flown on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The flags, called a Flag of Honor, will be flown at Borough Hall and at the park. The Flag of Honor has the names of everyone who perished in the attacks, including emergency services personnel, people on the planes and people at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Council approved two requests for street closures for community events. One is a Community Day being planned by the Royersford Business Association for Sept. 10 and the other is a yearly Labor Day block party thrown by the residents of 7th Avenue, which will be on Sept. 4.

Leonard said that he recently met with the committee responsible for the to address issues brought up by Washington Street residents during the last council meeting. He said the church will address the residents’ concerns, and they will meet before the next fair to make sure there are no further problems.
