Spring-Ford Schools Music Department Eyes Orlando For 2022
In hope the pandemic will be in past by this time next year, Spring-Ford School District OK'd a band competition trip to Orlando.
SPRING-FORD, PA — The Spring-Ford Area School District school board unanimously agreed to send the district's music department to the Music in the Parks Festival in Orlando in 2022.
The musical competition trip planned for this time next year also includes the Disney Parade at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. One board member called it "the trip of a lifetime" for music students.
The board approved the trip in Monday night's meeting. Board member David Shafer said, "I'm really thrilled to see this happening. It's an in-person event, in Orlando."

The approved motion authorized Seth Jones, High School Band Director; Yvonne O’Dea, High School Choral Director; and Emily McGranahan, High School Orchestra Director; and Joseph Perry, Assistant Marching Band Director, to take the Spring-Ford High School Music Department to compete in the Music in the Parks Festival and Disney Parade at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando. The trip is from Wednesday, March 16, 2022, through Monday, March 21, 2022.
The group will fly to Orlando and stay in a Universal Property Resort, the agenda said.

The cost of the trip paid by participants is about $1,550 each, including transportation.
SFASD board member Christina Melton said it is the third time the district's music department will be attending. She said if you want the high school's music wing, you can see Mickey Mouse trophies won in past competitions.
"Every part of our music department is involved in this. It's a great activity," said Melton.
The Spring-Ford Music Association and staff will hold fundraising events to help defray
the costs, the agenda explained.
Students will miss four days of school — Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday —
March 16-21, 2022, and they will be responsible for any missed work.
The cost to the district will be $3,072 for substitute coverage for the four teachers for the four days they will miss, the meeting agenda stated.
