LOWER MORELAND, PA β€” Local police are looking into a residential burglary that took place in the township late last month during which a gun was removed from a safe but left inside the home after the suspects fled.

The Lower Moreland Township Police Department says it is investigating the residential burglary, which occurred on April 25 at a home located in the area of Byberry Road and Huntingdon Pike.

Police say it is believed the burglary took place sometime between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. during which the residents were out eating at a restaurant.

The incident wasn't reported until around 8 that evening.

Police say that two different glass doors in the rear of the home, which are located in different spots and lead to different rooms, were shattered during the burglary and that furniture had been pushed aside as the burglars made their way inside.

A handgun, and the box in which it was located, had been removed from a safe that the burglars moved from its location to a hallway and forced open, and while the gun, which was loaded, appeared to be handled, it was left behind at the scene after the suspects left, according to police.

Police say the home did not have cameras and no neighbors appeared to know what was going on at the time.

While there was no blood left behind from the shattered glass, officers did recover some items that are currently being swabbed and processed for DNA analysis, according to police.

Anyone with information about the burglary is being asked to contact Lower Moreland Police Detective Holly Halota at 215-947-3132 or hhalota@lowermoreland.org.
