Woman's Body Recovered From Schuylkill River On July 4th

Emergency responders recovered a woman's body from the Schuylkill River over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

MONT CLARE, PA — A woman's body was recovered from the Schuylkill River in this Upper Providence community on the Fourth of July.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a call for a water rescue on Monday at around 12:38 p.m., according to the Upper Providence Township Police Department.

Witnesses said they saw an individual jump off of the railroad trestle and into the river in the area of Lock 60 in Upper Providence, police stated in a community alert.

A total of 11 water rescue and dive teams came out to search that area of the Schuylkill River, and members eventually located a deceased female at around 3 in the afternoon, according to police.

The body was turned over to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, police stated.

Police said that there were unconfirmed reports of another victim at the scene, but rescuers were unable to located anyone else after resuming a search for a period of time.

The victim's name and age were not released publicly, although police uncovered the identity of the individual and reported it to family members.
