Excuse Me, Mr. Bird, How Many Birds Live Here?

Join the Audubon Center at Mill Grove for a 2013 Bird Census.

Hello? Yes, you in the bird house. How many birds are staying or living in this house?

OK, it's not really THAT kind of Census, but close.

Those that visit the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove on March 30 can volunteer for a Bird Identification and Census course. The program will run from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Audubon Center at Mill Grove, which is located at 1201 Pawlings Road, Audubon, will serve as the starting point for the program. Volunteers will discuss "topics such as birding by shape, color/patterns, habitat, and call/song," according to the event posting on the Mill Grove website.

The Center offers some advice for those that may want to attend.

"Dress for the weather and come prepared with ID books and binoculars," said the site. "It is also hoped that this series of classes will help to create a pool of volunteers who will assist with the many requests Valley Forge Audubon Society (VFAS) receives to conduct bird censuses."

Additional dates for training posted to the website include April 13 and May 25. There is a request for a $5 donation, which is good for all three classes.
