Lower Providence Police Dept. Announces Retirement Of 35-Year Veteran Officer

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — A local police officer is leaving his post after more than three decades on the force.

Lower Providence Police on Thursday announced the retirement of longtime Officer Robert Cable, who has been with the department for 35 years.

"Please help us in congratulating Bob on his retirement and years of service that he dedicated to the citizens of Lower Providence Township and our police department," the Lower Providence Police Department said on its Facebook page. "Congratulations and thank you for your service, we wish you the very best in retirement!"

Cable is a graduate of Pottstown High School who obtained an Associate Degree in Police Science from the Montgomery County Community College in 1983, according to the Lower Providence Police Department.

He later obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from West Chester University.

After graduation, Cable enrolled in the Montgomery County Police Academy, finishing the program in late 1985.

From there, Cable began working as a seasonal patrol officer for the Wildwood Crest, New Jersey Police Department, and soon after was hired by the Schuylkill Township Police Department in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Cable started with Lower Providence in the summer of 1987.

Cable served as a tactical sniper for 13 years, first for Lower Providence's Special Operations Unit and later with the Central Montgomery County Emergency Response Team.

Cable was the recipient of various Distinguished Unit Citations for his work in Lower Providence and he has received several commendation letters and letters of appreciation from citizens during the course of his career, according to the Lower Providence Police Department.

Individuals are already wishing Cable well in his retirement, with the department's Facebook post receiving over 200 comments since it first went up on Thursday.

"Congratulations to one of the best officers at LPPD, Officer Cable," wrote resident Tom Boris.

Another commenter, Lois Byrne, thanked Cable for his dedication to the township.

"Congratulations Officer Cable and thank you for your dedication and service to make this a safe and desirable community in which we live!!" Byrne posted.

Brett E. Wells wrote that Cable was one of the first officers on the scene when his wife was the victim of a hit-and-run accident back in 2010.

"We still appreciate how you handled things all these years later," Wells stated.
