Methacton Post Prom: The Tradition Continues for the 23rd Year

Methacton High School will be transformed into a world of movies for "A Night Amongst the Stars"

EAGLEVILLE, PA – On Friday, April 19, 2024 Methacton High School will be transformed by dozens of “Set Designers” that will create spaces highlighting a variety of both recent and classic movies such as Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Barbie, Alice in Wonderland, The Sandlot, Beetlejuice and many, many more for “A Night Amongst the Stars.” They actually start their work months before Methacton Post Prom takes place, volunteering many nights and weekends conceptualizing, measuring, designing, painting, and building sets. All of that work culminates when they descend upon the school one last time the moment class is dismissed on the Thursday before the event to start transforming the school. It will take them almost 24 hours to get the school ready in time for their annual Community Walkthrough that takes place before the students arrive late Friday night. As the name suggests, the Community Walkthrough, which runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on Friday, April 19, is open to the public. This gives everyone in the community the chance to see the amazing sets that the students will see during Methacton Post Prom. During the walkthrough attendees will also have the chance to win valuable raffle baskets. Admission to the Community Walkthrough is free, but donations are always welcome.

Over 400 adult volunteers are needed to put on what former students have said was “the best school event ever put together” and “the highlight of my high school experience!” Currently, there are still over 200 volunteer positions open that need to be filled by April 5. One area school district had to cancel their post prom event for 2024 due to not having enough volunteers to lead and run their event this year. The current Methacton Post Prom committee is hoping the same doesn’t happen with their event which is why they are counting on parents of students in all Methacton schools, including elementary and above, to step up and fill the over 200 still open positions this year. Doing so will not only keep the 2024 event on track but it will help to ensure that Methacton Post Prom will continue for many years to come so that their children can enjoy it when they reach their Junior and Senior years. Volunteer information can be found on the Methacton Post Prom volunteer information webpage.

Methacton Post Prom started in 2000 as a way to offer students a fun, safe and exciting place to go after Prom, compared to the alternative which is statistically one of the most dangerous nights of a teen’s life. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), of the 3,522 people killed in distraction-related crashes in 2021, 225 were teens 15 to 19 years old.

About $50,000 is needed to produce this event, which is offered for free to all Methacton Juniors and Seniors (and their guests) after Prom ends. Producing this event would be impossible without funds donated by many local supporting organizations and businesses, parent and community donations, and fundraisers held by the Methacton Post Prom Committee. They recently held their first “Adult Prom” fundraiser at Eagleville Taphouse, who donated the space to hold the event, which was very successful. Their next fundraiser is “Family Fun at Arnold’s,” on April 14, where the public is welcome to come enjoy an hour of bowling followed by some arcade fun. Tickets include bowling shoe rental, pizza, a beverage and arcade points. For full details and to purchase tickets visit the event’s information page. Methacton Post Prom is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations are also being accepted via the Methacton Post Prom website.

All night long, students in attendance at Methacton Post Prom will have access to seemingly endless amounts of food and soft drinks, ranging from dinner-type food to start the night, to breakfast treats in the wee-hours of the morning. There will be a “coffee house” with a coffee truck and live music. Students will also have access to an amazing array of activities including the very popular volleyball tournament, laser tag, a casino (fake money is used), “cash cab” where students answer trivia questions to win real cash, a movie theater, incredible inflatables, video games, game room with billiards, table tennis and board games, a hypnotist show and more. There are also valuable door prizes awarded to some lucky students at the end of the event. All of this is provided free of charge to students.
