Methacton School District Issues Announcement After Texas School Shooting

Methacton School District's superintendent issued a statement following the Texas school shooting, saying resources are available for kids.

WORCESTER, PA β€” The chief administrator of the Methacton School District issued a letter to families on Wednesday, saying the district has resources available for students and their parents coping with the tragic news coming out of the Lone Star State involving a horrific school shooting.

"We are extremely sensitive to the stress, anxiety, and fear that this incident may cause for many in our school community," Methacton Superintendent David Zerbe said in his Wednesday announcement. "Our counselors are prepared to support any students and staff who may need it."

"The safety of our students, staff and visitors is of the utmost importance in our district," Zerbe continued. "We want all of our students to feel safe and secure in our schools."

At least 19 elementary school students along with at least two staff members were killed in a horrific mass shooting on Tuesday at an elementary school about 80 miles west of San Antonio, Texas.

At Methacton, Zerbe said that the district throughout the years has employed various tools designed to improve safety and security in the district, including working with Montgomery County's emergency management personnel, engaging with safety consultants, holding trainings and regular meetings with emergency response teams and district staff, and maintaining a strong relationship with both local and state law enforcement.

The district has also dedicated resources to improving and increasing access to student mental and emotional health, Zerbe wrote.

In his letter, Zerbe provided a couple links to resources that families may find helpful in this difficult time.
