Methacton Schools To Remain Mask-Optional After COVID-19 Changes
Students and staff in the Methacton School District will continue to have the option on whether or not to wear a face mask in schools.
WORCESTER, PA β The Methacton School District has announced that face coverings will remain optional in school buildings and on district transportation, even as increasing COVID-19 cases have spurred nearby districts to implement mandatory masking.
Last week, federal health officials announced that Montgomery County was now in the "high" community level for COVID-19.
After the announcement, some districts in the region moved toward once again making masks mandatory.

But in a recent letter to families, Methacton's superintendent, David Zerbe, said that students, staff, and visitors to the district would continue to have the option of whether or not to wear face coverings in the district.
"At this time, the district will remain mask optional," Zerbe wrote in the recent correspondence. "We are providing this information to inform you and to allow you an opportunity to discuss with your child how to best proceed with respects to masking or other mitigation measures as you see fit."

Zerbe noted that federal and county health officials are "recommending" that masks be worn indoors but not requiring it.
He said he would keep families abreast of any masking policy changes.
