PennDOT Announces Work Zone Awareness Week

It is Work Zone Awareness Week.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation wants travelers to “Expect the Unexpected” while sharing the road with highway workers.

According to PennDOT, drivers should keep the following tips in mind for your safety and the safety of highway workers:

• · Drive the posted work-zone limit.
• · Stay alert and pay close attention to signs and flaggers.
• · Turn on your headlights of signs instruct you to do so.
• · Maintain a safe distance around vehicles. Don’t tailgate.
• · Use Four-way flashers when stopped or traveling slowly.
• · Avoid distractions. Give full attention to the road.
• · Always buckle up.
• · Be patient.

When in posted work zones all motorists are required to have their headlights turned on. Drivers with daytime running lights still need to turn on headlights to activate taillights.

There will be speed monitoring devices in some work zones. Motorists are reminded that there could be a loss of license for driving dangerously in a work zone. Fines are also doubled in active work zones.
