Raising the Flag Over Collegeville's Fire Station
The newly renovated fire station is ready to serve the Borough of Collegeville and received a flag that was flown over the State Capitol.
We are incredibly fortunate in our district to have amazing volunteer firefighters that protect and serve our community every day. They are the unsung heroes that undergo vigorous training and put their lives on the line for the protection of those around them.
Recently, one of these incredible fire departments, Collegeville Fire Company, underwent building renovations that allowed room for a 30-foot flagpole.
Lifting the Flag
My office had the opportunity to present a flag that had been flown over Harrisburg to the devoted and selfless men and women that make up the Collegeville Fire Company.
Since 1937, flying a flag over a national, or state, capitol has been a tradition that honors both the symbolic nature of the act itself and those that are gifted with the flag. After flying this flag over Pennsylvania’s capitol, we joined the fire fighters in lifting the flag onto its pole at the station. It was our absolute pleasure to play a small part in their tremendous building renovations, and to pay tribute to the sacrifices that the Collegeville Fire Company fire fighters make on a daily basis for our community.
Collegeville Fire Company's Mission - Serving the Community
The mission statement of the Collegeville Fire Company reads; “our mission is to preserve life and property from destruction by fire or other disaster whether man made or natural in Collegeville Borough and nearby vicinities”. Since 1891, the Collegeville Fire Company No. 1 has pledged themselves to this mission for the betterment of this community.
The company is entirely comprised of volunteers from all walks of life that love what they do and expect no compensation in return. They are accountants, lawyers, computer technicians, stay-at-home-parents, mechanics, police officers, and most importantly - our neighbors. Along with assisting the police department and responding to life threatening calls, they teach young children about fire safety education and extend a helping hand to those that they serve, whenever necessary.
Firefighters are True Heroes
They are true heroes in our community, and I feel very fortunate that my office was able to gift them with a flag to honor and thank them.
I have the utmost admiration and respect for the fighters and want to extend a sincere thank you to every fire fighter in our community for all that they do.
