• Mahanoy City adopts 2026 budget with no tax increase (republicanherald.com) — Mahanoy City Borough Council has adopted its 2026 budget without raising property taxes, keeping the real estate rate at 5.99 mills after countywide reassessment. The $2.36 million plan funds full-time police coverage, public works, administration, and other services while leaving a small surplus, reflecting the borough’s continued financial recovery after exiting Act 47 distressed status.

• Columbia Co. rep. introduces ‘Aiden's Law' to establish alert system for certain missing kids (shensentinel.com) — A Columbia County lawmaker is proposing “Aiden’s Law,” which would create a statewide Purple Alert system to quickly notify the public when people with certain cognitive or developmental disabilities go missing. While the bill stems from a tragedy in Columbia County, its protections would apply across Pennsylvania, including communities like Mahanoy City that the Shenandoah Sentinel serves.
