Malvern Ax Throwers To Compete At World Championships In Texas

Malvern-based ax throwers Tyler Seidel, Matt Bartnicki, and Colin Seidel qualified to compete in the World Axe Throwing Championship.

MALVERN, PA — Three Malvern-based ax throwers are traveling to Texas later this month to compete in the 2021 World Axe Throwing Championships.

Brothers Tyler Seidel and Colin Seidel as well as Matt Bartnicki, all who throw at Splitting Edge Axe Throwing in Malvern, have qualified for the World Ax Throwing League's world championship tournament from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12 in Fort Worth, Texas.

These three throwers will each participate in the singles "Standard Hatchet" tournament. The Seidel brothers together will also participate in the "Duals" tournament hosted during that same weekend.

The top throwers from around the world competed in leagues, tournaments, invitationals and circuit events vying to earn their bids and were invited to participate in the largest tournament of the year in the sport of axe throwing. The top 128 axe throwers in the world qualified to compete for a $50,000 prize pool. Then, the top four finishing throwers will compete live on ESPN Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.

Tyler "The Kid" Seidel, in his first ever full year season of axe throwing, has set the World Record for points in a throwing session this past summer and then proceeded to break his own record in the fall. Out of a possible 1,792 points in the fall, he scored 1,703, which is just 89 points away from a perfect season, breaking his summer World Record of 1,693 points.

Tyler Seidel has earned the No. 1 ranking among all World Ax Throwing League throwers entering the World Ax Throwing Championship tournament.

"It's an honor to be invited to the World Championships and to be able to represent Splitting Edge Axe Throwing," Bartnicki, Regional Manager of Splitting Edge, sadi. "As a group we are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our talent."
