Malvern Prep Community Celebrates State Championship Wrestling Team
The private school won its first state championship in February at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament.
MALVERN, PA — Malvern Prep students on Friday celebrated the school’s first state championship in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament at the Penn Charter School in Philadelphia.
The student gathered in the Malvern school’s quad and cheered for the wrestling team.
The team beat Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, the school that won 15 of the last independent state school championships.

“It’s great for the team to win a state championship - something we have been working for since I started coaching,” Nate Lautar, who has been the varsity head coach for over a decade.
“It seemed almost impossible to beat a powerhouse like Wyoming Seminary but now we have finally made that dream a reality. It means so much to our student-athletes who have been with me since day one.”

Malvern Prep’s wrestling program, finished 3rd overall after competing in the 87th National Prep Wrestling Championships in Upper Marlboro, Md.
"Our wrestling program has established its tradition of incredible work ethic, talent, and an ‘all in’ attitude from students, parents, and coaches," said Jim Stewart, Jr., head of athletics. "We are truly proud of our wrestlers for maximizing their talents through hard work and a persistent attitude.”
The team ended the season ranked #5 in the country. Malvern Prep’s wrestling team and coaching staff members were also honored with top awards.
● Malvern Prep senior Tommy Link was awarded the Ronald K. Nelson Award, which honors the importance of teamwork through wrestling.
● Head Varsity Coach Nate Lautar, a Malvern Prep alumni from the class of 1998 was named Coach of the Year.
● Assistant Coach, Nate Wachter, was named Assistant Coach of the Year.
