34th Annual Delco Historic Preservation Award Recipients Announced
The Delaware County Heritage Commission recently announced the Annual Preservation Awards during a county council meeting in honor of National Preservation Month.

MEDIA–During the Delaware County Council meeting last week, the council was honored with a Heritage Commission award for “the rehabilitation and reuse” of the Rose Tree Tavern after it was moved from its original location at Rose Tree Road and Route 252 to in Upper Providence.
“The original structure that dated to 1739 is gone, but the 1809 inn was rehabilitate by the county council and is once again open to the public as the headquarters for the Brandywine Conference and Visitors Center,” according to the council’s press release, which is attached to this article.
There were 12 other projects and activities that were awarded the 2012 Historic Preservation Award, stated the press release.

“Usually council is the one giving out resolutions and honors, but today we are proud to be recognized for this excellent reuse of a historic building in one of our county parks,” Delaware County Councilman Dave White, the council’s liaison to the county’s Heritage Commission, exclaimed.
More than 200 years ago the tavern was originally a station for travelers, White explained.
