Big Al Stops by Country Squire Diner

BROOMALL–Newtown Square resident and legendary sports broadcaster Al Meltzer–or popularly known as "Big Al"–stopped by in Broomall .

Big Al was the voice for Philadelphia sports on WFIL Radio, WPHL-TV, Channel 17, WCAU-TV, Channel 3, and became a 10-time Emmy winner.

Meltzer was joined by co-author Robert S. Lyons Jr. on Saturday for their book "Fifty Years of Adventures in Sports Broadcasting." Lyons covered professional and college sports for the Associated Press for more than 40 years and has written for numerous national publications including The Saturday Evening Post, Christian Science Monitor, Nation's Business, Delta SKY Magazine, The Sporting News, and Baseball Digest, just to name a few.

A surprise guest that day included Jim Murray, founder of the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia and the former Philadelphia Eagles general manager.
