Blotter: Woman Blames Poor Driving on Praying, Craigslist and Internet Scams, More

BROOMALL–On Aug. 8 at approximately 8:30 p.m., followed a silver Chrysler on the 300 block of South Sproul Road from Crum Creek Road until they stopped the vehicle in the 800 block of West Sproul Road in Springfield. According to the report, the vehicle had crossed the white fog/shoulder line several times and was traveling at approximately 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. The driver, a 63-year-old woman from Glen Mills, blamed her less than stellar driving on praying, said police in the report. According to the report, the woman had rosary beads in her hands. 

Craigslist Scam Reported 

On Aug. 7 at approximately 2:13 p.m., a man came into the Marple police station to report a Craigslist scam. According to the report, the man was selling a truck cap on Craigslist for $200. An online buyer had sent the man a check with no bank name on it in the amount of $2,500, according to the report. The man was instructed to cash the check, keep the $200 and send the difference to him via Western Union. According to the report, the man did not follow the buyer’s instruction and came to report it to the police station.

Dog Left Inside Hot Car With Windows Closed

On Aug. 4 at approximately 11:40 a.m., police responded to the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center parking lot at 400 S. State Road for a reported dog left inside a vehicle. Police were flagged down by two witnesses, who have been waiting for the owner to arrive for approximately 20 minutes, and pointed to a small poodle-type dog sitting on the backseat of the vehicle, according to the report. The dog was observed panting heavily and all the windows of the vehicle were closed, according to the report. The temperature was about 90 degrees and very humid, said police in the report. Approximately 20 minutes later, the owner came out of the Game Stop and admitted that he made a mistake and miscalculated how long he was going to be in the store for. The witnesses gave the dog owner a bottle of water to give the dog, said police in the report. The owner was cited for cruelty to animals.

Woman Tries to Purchase Jersey Online, Gets Faked Out

On July 31, police received a report about a fraudulent Internet purchase. The victim reported that she purchase an autographed jersey from a website called patriots-memorabelia.com. After several weeks, the woman told police she didn’t receive the jersey. She contacted the website and was told the Paypal transaction was rejected. The woman told them she did not have a Paypal account. The man she spoke to told her he was told not to accept the transaction. When the woman created a Paypal account and made the purchase, she still never received the merchandise, said police in the report. The woman was unable to make contact with the website again.
