Local School Comes Alive with Sound of Music

The hills around Newtown Square were alive with The Sound of Music last weekend, as Delaware County Christian School presented the musical in the school's DeMoss performing arts and worship center.

The production was a community effort, with students from all three divisions (elementary, middle and high schools) of the school performing.

Sisters Ava and Hannah Schaafsma, of Newtown Square, starred as sisters Gretl and Liesl Von Trapp.

The sets were built during the school's unique two week winter session that allows students to focus on subjects of interest outside the normal academic classes.

This well-known and beloved musical recounts the true story of the Von Trapp family and their young governess, Maria, who brings music, healing and love to a family fractured by the loss of their mother. Their story unfolds just as their homeland of Austria is dealing with occupation and annexation into Nazi Germany in 1938.

Bring your entire family and friends along as a cast of over sixty talented DC students brings the Von Trapp’s story to life on the DeMoss Center stage on March 1, 2, 8 and 9.
