The annual muddy race for the Multiple Sclerosis Society was held on June 9-10 at the Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–At a Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday night, Township Manager Mike Trio stated that approximately 15,000 attended the MuckRuckus MS Philly race this past weekend in Newtown Square.
Approximately 4,300 of the 15,000 helped run the muddy race, which ran from June 9-10, to benefit the Multiple Slerosis Society. According to Trio, the Newtown Township Police Department and township highway department staff assisted in traffic control and public safety during the event, while the township's EMTs and paramedics were busily tending to particpants' minor bumps and bruises. No major injuries or incidents were reported.
Some notable runners in this year's event included Board of Supervisors Chairman Joseph Catania and the "Agile Cops," who respresented the .

There were also two other local teams from the Newtown Square area who participated in this year's race.
One of the teams named themselves as the "Sandy Flashers." According to Newtown Square Historical Society blogger , Sandy Flash was a highwayman in the Newtown Square area during the American Revolution who was eventually captured, tried, convicted and hung.

Playing off the name, the "Sandy Flashers" were the only “clothing optional” team. According to Humes, who also participated in this year's race, stated through email that two of their group members ran the race without shirts, even crawling through the mud, rocks and obstacles.
The team of eight raised a little over $1,000. Another group of about 37 women, led by Lisa MacCauley called themselves the "Sandy Flash Dashers" and raised at least $4,770.
