Saturday Arts Stroll Features Local Folk Musician

This month's 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll will welcome a homegrown folk musician, and a staple to Newtown Square's Burlap and Bean, as well as many other performers, visual artists, and arts-related activities.

MEDIA–This month's 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll in Media will welcome a homegrown folk musician as well as many other performers, visual artists, and arts-related activities.

The Media Arts Council is will host the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll from 6 to 9 p.m.  on Saturday, Jan. 14, in downtown Media.
 
, a local musician who has performed in clubs and coffeehouses throughout the Delaware Valley for years, will perform at the at 7 p.m., according to a M.A.C. press release.

Swartzwelder's original songs offer a blend of folk, rock, country and blues, and have won him a local following as well as rave reviews. He has recent and upcoming performances at venues including the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, World Café Live in Wilmington, and at in Newtown Square where he is also the host of the weekly Open Mic Night, according to the press release.

Painter Rinal Parikh's work will also be on display at .

Parikh’s art reflects the heritage and vibrant culture of her native India. A self-taught artist, she draws on a childhood fascination with color and composition, portraying spontaneity and energy with saturated color in various media, according to the press release.

Her subjects are influenced by life in India, and she studies the many different styles of Indian painting that vary from state to state.

"Although they are from the same country," she says in a M.A.C. press release, "they are very different from each other. I find it intriguing."

Rinal's work has appeared in India in group exhibitions and on magazine covers. In the United States, she made her debut with a solo exhibit at The Creative Living Room in Swarthmore, and has been featured in exhibits at Swarthmore Borough Hall and a year long exhibit at Tyme Gallery in Havertown. She also teaches children’s and adult watercolor classes in Swarthmore.

Also featured at this month's Arts Stroll are student artwork, tapestries, robot sculptures, multi-genre faith-based art, student artwork, tango, family karaoke, and much more. 2nd Saturday visitors will benefit from a range of engaging experiences as well as the warmth of welcoming businesses and friends.

The 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll is a monthly event offering free, family-friendly arts experiences to all who attend. Media businesses stay open late to host live musical performances and arts exhibits and demonstrations, creating a lively, art-filled atmosphere that Media is known for.
 
The Media Arts Council works to support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community of Media. M.A.C., a non-profit organization, accepts donations to support the programs.
