Woman Jumps to Safety When Car Rolls Downhill, Smashing into Marple Home

Woman inside the house tells Patch: "If I hadn't jumped up, I'd be dead right now!"

Hellen Presta was enjoying a Saturday afternoon watching some TV in her living room recliner when the walls of her home literally came crashing down, toppling a heavy cabinet full of Hummels she's spent years collecting, onto her chair. A car came crashing through the wall after rolling backwards and down a fairly steep hill from a driveway across the street.

Presta escaped injury. Witnesses on the scene said the unidentified driver of the car, described to Patch as "an older woman" was also uninjured. The driver was able to walk away and return the house where the car had been parked.

While damage to the outside of Presta's house at Cornwall and South Central appeared to be bent and damaged siding, the scene inside told a different story.

A heavy china cabinet came crashing down, resting on the corner of the recliner, literally inches from where Presta's head had been seconds before jumped to safety. Glass and collectible porcelain figures lay in pieces on the floor.
