How To Support Delco Cemetery Targeted By Accused Grave Robber
Mount Moriah Cemetery is the largest abandoned cemetery in the United States, according to the group that oversees the property.
YEADON, PA — After authorities apprehended and charged a man with breaking into and stealing from burial sites at a Delaware County cemetery, the stewards of the cemetery could use some support.
Jonathan Gerlach, 34, of Ephrata, Lancaster County, is accused of breaking into graves and mausoleums at Mount Moriah Cemetery, located partially in Yeadon and Philadelphia, and stealing bones from them. Authorities said Gerlach was found in possession of human skeletal remains and more, alleging they were stolen from the cemetery.

Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery on social media said the alleged crimes were confined specifically to mausoleums and underground vaults.
"Mount Moriah is the largest abandoned cemetery in the United States," the group said. "Its historic grounds are cared for by a dedicated group of approximately 12 volunteers who show up week in and week out to preserve this space."

Fox 29 reports the cemetery will use the funds to construct a new fence around its grounds, and plans to install cameras and conduct patrols around the property.
