5 Things to Know this Week: History of Pirates Baseball and Yoga Basics

1. The History of Pirates Baseball 

The Old Moon Township Historical Society will host speaker Jim Haller, an expert on the Pirates' franchise, at its Monday, Aug. 5 meeting at 6:30 p.m. Haller will talk about the history of baseball in Pittsburgh in the Moon Township Public Library's Sky Room.

2.  Back-to-School Saturday with Calum Worthy

Celebrate back to school with a fashion show and a visit from Calum Worthy of Disney's hit show "Austin & Aly" from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. Teen Vogue Back-to-School Saturday includes a fashion show and a special meet and greet with Calum. Click here for more details. 

3. Family Fun Nights 

Check out a free movie with the family Friday, Aug. 9 in Moon Park. Playing this week is Wild World of Animals (Live Entertainment Event). Movies start at dusk. 

4. Pack the Truck

Now through Aug. 31, The Mall at Robinson and Falconi’s Moon Township Ford are sponsoring "Pack the Truck," a 31-day event designed to collect supplies each day in August.  


5. Yoga Basics or Zumba 

If you have ever wanted to try yoga, this is course from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday is for you.  Aug. 6 through Aug. 27 at the Moon municipal building, ages 15 and up can learn the basics of Hatha Yoga, which includes poses, breath work, and guided relaxation. Participants should bring a yoga mat or towel and water to class. Cost is $40 for Moon residents and $45 for non-residents, per four-week session.

You can also try six weeks of Zumba classes, which are designed to have fun while you burn calories. Classes start Thursday, Aug. 8 in the municipal building. Zumba Fitness is a combination of Latin-based dance moves; salsa, cumbia, soca, flamenco, samba, hip-hop and more. No experience necessary. Bring water. Cost is $45 for Moon residents and $50 for non-residents; $15 discount available.
