Five Things You Need to Know This Week

1. Township offices closed for July 4 holiday

The as well as the  Coraopolis District Court,  and township are closed today for the Fourth of July holiday. Normal office hours will resume tomorrow. 

2. Meet Mark Washington

, the  tapped Aliquippa's former assistant coach Mark Washington as its new varsity head football coach. Patch sat down with Coach Washington last week -- we'll bring you the interview on Wednesday.

3. Library hosts 'worm race'

The invites first- and second-graders to its annual worm race. The concept is simple: Bring your own worm at 10 a.m. Tuesday to the library's 1700 Beaver Grade Road location. The fastest worm wins!

The event is free to attend but participants must register in person at the library.

4. Township meetings scheduled

The Moon Historical Architecture Review Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. July 6 at the Moon Municipal Building. 

The township's Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. July 6 at the Moon Municipal Building. Check back with Patch for coverage. 

5. Moon Area School District lays off support staff 

Nearly 25 support staff received layoff notices from the late last week. Check back with Patch for more coverage.
