Gun Confiscated At Pittsburgh Airport For 2nd Consecutive Day

People continue to try to pass guns through Pittsburgh International Airport security checkpoints.

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — For the second consecutive day, Allegheny County police have filed charges after seizing a gun at Pittsburgh International Airport's primary security checkpoint.

On Tuesday afternoon, Transportation Security Administration officers observed a handgun within a passenger's carry-on bag and notified police.

The man with the gun was identified as Christopher Brandon Batson, 39, whom police determined did not possess a concealed carry permit. He faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm without a license.

The firearm was confiscated and the FBI was notified.

On Monday, police cited a Florida woman after seizing a .380 caliber handgun at the security checkpoint.

According to police, 30 firearms have been confiscated at airport security checkpoints this year; 11 of the seizures have led to criminal charges.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
