Man Charged in Moon Clinton Hit-And-Run Waives Hearing

The Coraopolis man appears in district court Tuesday.

A Coraopolis man charged with striking a pedestrian with his car in July has waived his right to a preliminary hearing. 

John K. Haupl, 32, was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, unlawful activities and failure to notify police after he struck a pedestrian with his vehicle on the night of July 25 on Moon Clinton Road and fled the scene on July 25, according to police records. 

Haupl waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Coraopolis District Court. A date for his formal arraignment was not immediatley available.

Haupl told police that he believed he struck a mailbox on July 25, but instead struck a girl who was walking alongside the roadway, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to .
