Man Charged with Drug Possession on Air Force Reserve Base

A New Kensington man was charged on the weekend with bringing marijuana onto to the 911th Airlift Wing base.

Richard John Oleniacz, 53, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanor charges, June 2 after security personnel on the base searched his car.

According to police reports, guards at the base were performing routine car searches at the base's main entrance when they found a glass pipe and bag of marijuana in Oleniacz's possession.

Police said Oleniacz attempted to throw the bag of marijuana over a nearby guide rail. Security personnel later found the bag and turned it into police.

Guards at the base handcuffed Oleniacz until police arrived because they said he was acting erratically.

He is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Mary Murray July 17 for a preliminary hearing.

  • Police said a dozen mailboxes were knocked down in the 4000 block of Turnwood Lane on the evening of June 2. Police said a blunt object, such as a bat, likely was used to overturn the mailboxes. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
