Police: Man Wields Kitchen Utensil, Steals Dog in Polo Club Burglary

A Pittsburgh man is charged with burglary after police said he kicked down an apartment door in the apartment complex and used a potato peeler to steal a dog. 

said 24-year-old Garrett Andrew Stauber broke into an apartment at 3 a.m. July 27 on Bridle Trail, grabbed a kitchen knife and potato peeler from the home's dishwasher and fled with the resident's small, white dog, according to a police report. 

It was unclear if Stauber knew the resident of the apartment. Police said he engaged in a fist fight with a man outside of the apartment building following the burglary.

Witnesses reported seeing a barefoot man with the dog at the Polo Club apartment complex, according to police records.  

Police said Stauber left footprints in the mud down Bridle Trail, which they followed to a nearby apartment, where Stauber was staying with a friend. He is charged with simple assault and burglary in connection to the incident.

Moon Police also responded to the following recent incidents and made the following recent arrests. Each item is a reflection of police records and does not indicate guilt or a conviction.

  • Brandon Michael Tylenda, 30, of Upper St. Clair, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, failure to use traffic control signals and driving without insurance at 3 a.m. July 22 on University Boulevard. 
  • Charlene McFrazier, 27, of Aliquippa, was charged with retail theft at 2:30 p.m. July 29 at Super Kmart on Market Place Boulevard. The theft was valued at $347, according to police records. 
  • Daniel Stephen Brioli, 28, of Pittsburgh, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct July 28 on Moon Clinton Road. 
  • John K. Haupl, 32, of Lycoming Drive, was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, unlawful activities and failure to notify police of an accident July 25 after a hit-and-run crash on Moon Clinton Road that injured a pedestrian.
