Moon To Close Hyde Elementary School
Moon Area School District directors have voted to close Hyde Elementary School at the end of the upcoming school year.
MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — This coming school year will be the last for Hyde Elementary School. Despite vociferous calls from parents to keep it open, school directors on Tuesday voted to shutter the school at the end of the 2024-25 year.
The vote to close the school was 5-4.
New school boundaries will be established for the 2025-26 school year, but district officials said most Hyde students will move to J.H. Brooks Elementary.

Hyde was built in the 1950s and was in need of renovations that a study estimated would cost the district approximately $10 million.
District officials also cited low test scores as another reason for closing the school. Some parents asserted the scores were low because the school served a large amount of low-income families and English as a second language students.
