Moon Police Suspect Explosives Used to Blow Up Mail Boxes

Only minor damage is reported.

suspect someone used homemade explosive devices to blow up two neighborhood mailboxes.

Two residents this weekend discovered their mailboxes destroyed by what police described in reports as a makeshift explosive devices.

Police found large BB pellets, 6 millimeter softair pellets, fireworks debris and a metal can Sunday morning at homes on Diamond Drive and Shippen Street, where the incidents were reported.

Police suspect the mailboxes were destroyed Saturday night.

Police said one homeowner at the 100 block of Shippen Drive came home to find her mailbox in her front yard and several pieces of mail inside were charred from the apparent explosion.

"It appeared that the force of the explosion propped the mailbox off its plastic frame," wrote Officer Angela Zane in a police report.

Damage estimates to the mailboxes were unavailable. No other property was reported damaged in the incidents. Police continue to investigate.
