Moon School Board Approves Van Purchase, Curriculum Changes
The board also approved a contract for a boiler replacement.

The  approved on Monday a series of middle school curriculum changes for the upcoming school year, but tabled revisions to the district's health and math programs.Â
The board voted 6-to-1 to adopt the curriculum revisions, excluding health and math. Board member Jerry Testa voted against the measure. Board members Samuel Tranter and Ron Steele were not present at the meeting.Â
The board is expected to reconsider changes to the math and health programs at its meeting later this month.

The board also awarded a bid to Tower Engineering to provide consulting services for a boiler replacement at Allard Elementary at a cost not to exceed $15,900. The expense will be charged from the district's capital reserve budget.Â
The board also approved the purchase of computer equipment at cost of $250,000 as a part of its technology refresh initiative, as well as the purchase of a new 10-passenger van at a cost of $9,950. The van will replace an existing district vehicle and will be purchased through SS Sales Inc.Â

Board members also approved change orders to the ongoing middle school renovation project at an increased cost of $3,791.99. The building will open to students at the beginning of the 2012-2013 academic year.Â
The district will also donate surplus furniture from the current Moon Area Middle School to the international charity Food for the Poor; the furniture will be shipped at no cost to the district.
The district donated old student desks from its former high school to the charity in 2011. The furniture was to classrooms in Jamaica and Guana Island in the British Virgin Islands.
