The Transportation Security Administration intercepted another handgun at Pittsburgh International Airport on Sunday.

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — Transportation Security Administration agents intercepted the 30th handgun this year at a Pittsburgh International Airport security checkpoint on Sunday.
TSA officials said the .38 caliber gun was loaded with six bullets and was packed with a gun magazine containing an additional six bullets. The gun was found in a carry-on bag of a Commodore, PA man.
With more than four months to go in the 2024, the number of guns seized at the airport this year could approach last year's record of 44 weapons confiscated.

Last week, a Florida woman was cited for attempting to pass a gun through a security checkpoint. Another gun was seized at the checkpoint a day later.
“We are seeing way too many guns show up at our checkpoints,” Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport, said in a release.

“If you own a firearm, do not bring it to a checkpoint. If you must travel with your gun, the proper way to do it is to make sure it’s unloaded, packed in a hard-sided locked case and taken to the airline check-in counter. The airline will ensure it is transported in the belly of the aircraft.”
