RMU Announces New Basketball Recruits

Athletes sign letters of intent with the university.

will add three guards and two forwards to its basketball lineup for the 2011-2012 season. 

Three players have signed national letters of intent to attend the university and another incoming freshman has agreed verbally to play for the Colonials. The recruiting class also will include a transfer student. 

Joining next season's team are freshman guards David Appolon of Philadelphia; Brandon Herman of Chattanooga, TN; freshman forwards Keith Armstrong of Raleigh, N.C.; Darren Washington of Belleville, MI; and Iona College transfer student Mike McFadden, a sophomore forward.

Washington has not yet signed a letter of intent to attend RMU. The 6-foot 9-inch forward had  committed to play at Eastern Michigan, but has now signed scholarship papers to attend RMU.

The recruiting class joins a group of four returning starters and seven letter winners from the 2010-2011 season.

"We have five new guys that are going to create competition," said RMU head coach Andrew Toole in a statement. "And that's a really good thing because it's going to keep everyone sharp in practice and during games." 

This will be Toole's second season as head coach at the university. 

RMU enters the upcoming season with an overall record of 108-56 (.659) during the last five seasons, both university and North East Conference records.
