Runners Hit the Road at Moon 5K

Nearly 300 runners turn out for the third annual event.

It's not an easy course, Laura Magnelli said. 

For the third year in a row, Magnelli, along with her sisters Dana and Audrey, took to roads early Saturday for the  

Nearly 300 local runners and walkers contended with Moon's rolling hills and freshly tarred and chipped roadways, not to mention balmy July temperatures, while on the course.

"It's definitely a hard ," Magnelli said. "But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be with the [tarred and chipped] roads." 

The course snaked from Cherrington Parkway through Beaver Grade Road and back again.

"We're not a competitive race," said Amy Ottaviani of the township's , which organized the event. "We're all about fitness and wellness at this run." 

Ottaviani said more than 100 participants in last year's race were first-time 5K runners. 

"It's just been fantastic," she said. "We have a very diverse group here."
