The low-cost airline announced a new Pittsburgh route Wednesday.

FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, PA — Discount carrier Spirit Airlines is about to expand service, adding a daily nonstop route between Pittsburgh and Newark beginning June 22.

Although the fare was not announced, the move should provide a low-cost travel option from Pittsburgh, New York and New Jersey.

“We know people are eager to travel this summer, and we’re happy to add new, high-value options for Guests looking to visit friends and family in northern New Jersey," John Kirby, Spirit vice president of network planning, said in a news release.
