NEW HOPE, PA — The following local students have earned degrees this spring at colleges and universities around the region.
College of the Holy Cross
Sydney Ives of New Hope earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, this spring.
DeSales University
Danielle I. Herbert of New Hope graduated from DeSales University this May with a bachelor of arts degree in TV/film. The university held its 55th commencement ceremony at the PPL Center in Allentown.

James Madison University
Carolyn Thistlewaite of New Hope graduated cum laude with a degree in Sport & Rec Management (Bachelor of Science) from James Madison University in Virginia during commencement exercises in May. Thistlewaite was among more than 4,482 students who received undergraduate and graduate degrees.
University of Scranton
At the University of Scranton, Karla J. Shaffer of New Hope was among 22 members of the Class of 2024 who graduated from the university's honors program.

Students in the Honors Program pursue a rigorous education that stresses independent work through close engagement with professors and other honors students, including the preparation, presentation, and defense of a research or creative project during their senior year.
Shaffer graduated magna cum laude as a political science major. Shaffer worked with faculty advisor JoyAnna Hopper, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, on a thesis entitled "Let's Talk Trash - How has Institutional Inertia and Community Activism Affected Landfill Permitting in Pennsylvania?"
Andrew LaZella, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, and Jill A. Warker, associate professor of psychology, serve as co-directors of the University Honors Program.
